About me
Hello! My name is Rachel Williamson, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I understand that reaching out for help can be an incredibly challenging and intimidating task, especially when it involves confiding in a complete stranger. That's why I want to take this opportunity to share a little bit about my background and experience.
I have dedicated years of my life to acquiring knowledge and skills in the field of mental health. My education journey began at the University of Central Missouri, where I obtained bachelor's degrees in both Psychology and Criminal Justice. These educational foundations allowed me to gain an understanding of the human mind and behavior, as well as the workings of our justice system.
Over the last ten years, I've been working in the field of community mental health, where I have had the opportunity to closely engage with individuals facing a diverse array of challenges and obstacles. I've assisted those dealing with substance abuse, grappling with ongoing mental health issues, navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system, and adapting to significant life-altering changes.
While working as a case manager, I witnessed firsthand the positive outcomes and direct influence of therapy. My passion for supporting others and making a positive impact on their lives led me to continue my studies at Avila University, where I earned a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and became provisionally licensed to practice therapy. I practiced under supervision for two years to gain experience and to have guidance.
As a fully licensed therapist, I have continued to attend numerous trainings on various therapeutic modalities. One particular area of expertise that I am proud to possess is cognitive processing therapy for trauma. This evidence-based approach has provided me with tools and techniques to help individuals on their healing journey. By continuing to expand my knowledge and staying up-to-date with the latest modalities, I am able to offer a diverse range of interventions tailored to the unique needs of each client I work with. I have also done trainings in Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational interviewing, and Experiential therapy.
